Hi my name is Tracey, my husband Mike and I have bought 39 Trinity Street to run Dorchester Hair Studio. I will give you a bit of background history of my career in hairdressing.
In 1988, soon after the successful completion of my qualifications: NVQ’s levels 1,2 & 3 in Hairdressing and qualifications in makeup, manicure, wig making and gents, Mike and I opened our first salon Blades in Dorchester at High West Street. In August 1993 we expanded into larger premises in High West Street and incorporated therapy rooms. We sold the business in October 1998 after a successful ten years of trading, we decided start a family and are very proud of our daughter Caminha and son Leon.
At Blades I concentrated on the training and development of staff and trainees within the salon and this developed into my future career path. I initially started as an NVQ consultant in March 1997 for MDS Training in Weymouth, who were bought out by Spring Plc in April 1998. I left Spring Skills in May 2000, in order to widen my experience in further education and I Joined Yeovil College in June 2000 as a job share Head of department for Hair and Beauty. I left Yeovil College after deciding to return to work based learning in Dorset.
I joined Advanced Training In January 2001 and my role was similar to that at Spring Skills, but with more emphasis on the tutor delivery role. I also worked with candidates working towards their Training and development awards in Hairdressing, giving them the skills to assess in a work based environment. The Advanced Training contract was taken over by Paragon Training Ltd in September 2001, along with my colleague Blanche we set up the hair training provision for Paragon and worked together as programme managers.
After leaving Paragon Blanche and I both decided to work on a self employed basis, and we have recently started our own Company Bespoke Hairdressing Training Ltd. We deliver apprenticeships, and can assess and verify for large salon groups; we support apprenticeship training for salons that are committed to training our future stylists. We deliver and assess The TAQA award (to be able to assess NVQ’s) and deliver workshops in teaching, training and development. Please see the following link: bespokehairdressingtraining.com Bespoke can also offer private courses in NVQ’s or just units from the qualifications in hairdressing and barbering. If you are interested in refreshing your skills or developing your training please contact us through the link or find us on Facebook.
Throughout my teaching career it has been a requirement of the awarding bodies I work with that I maintain my continued professional development, I have always enjoyed styling hair and it is a passion of mine that I can pass those skills onto people to develop the industry that is so important to me. I am enjoy working on the shop floor and will be in the salon on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday taking appointments and hope to welcome clients old and new. I am really excited to have a team of experienced self employed stylists join me, two of which; Beccy and Tanya used to work for me at Blades and I helped train and develop their careers so it is lovely that they are again part of the team.
